  1. Good ideas. I too like the European machines, maybe because I grew-up with machines from the USA. Then Smith-Corona typewriters are hard to beat for a good touch.

I should also follow your buy local only. Sure would save money, but there are few machines in this area of Florida.

  2. Your principle will lead to slower acquisition, but sure satisfaction.

I have found some European machines in the flesh in Ohio: an Optima like yours, a Hermes 3000, a Consul, an Olivetti Lettera 22, even a Rheinmetall.

  3. After searching Chicago proper and its environs for the last ten years let me assure you - or at least let me hope - that Ohio has GOT to have a better pedigree of fine machines! Very average, mostly electric (or- GASP! electronic!!) machines in the area for the most part. Seems if not for my collection there would be next to nothing...

  4. I am not sure how close you are to it, but the Medina Antique mall has a Triumph De-Jur for about $80. That was about 2 weeks ago, but there were so many typewriters there, it would surprise me to see that one go. Look it up. It might be worth the drive.
